Yankee Stadium - 2012

Yankee Stadium
Who can begin to describe what it means to walk into Yankee Stadium to see the team?  My team, your team, America’s team.  You either love’ em or hate’ em but it’s the team nonetheless.   It gets all mixed up in your consciousness with the flag on the 4th parading down Main Street and Norman Rockwell trying to interpret the American experience.  It was something that I didn’t think I would ever get to do, wasn’t even on my bucket list.  But when I was trying to think of a way  to spend an afternoon in New York doing something I hadn’t done before the idea occurred to me.  I think we made a few of the home boys in Utah a bit more than jealous when we announced that we were spending the afternoon watching the Yankees.  I will definitely do it again and again, next time I will arrive earlier to spend time in the Museum.  I must say it was easy to get there and get back from Manhattan, and tickets were a breeze to buy online.  Going forward it’s a must do for me.

Dianne, Julie and Claudia (taking the picture) had a great time at the game.

Little Italy - 2012.

Little Italy
Our dates in 2012 happened to coincide with the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy.  I didn’t know what to expect but I did have a good time watching the parade from the front of a little eatery that had set up seating for the event.  The teen age girl who was the reigning royalty of the festival stopped by before getting ready for the parade just to talk to her family.  We just so happened to witness this intimate moment in the lives of the good people of this neighborhood.  A little glimpse into the neighborhood that I have read about for years in novels and seen in movies.
Little Italy is charming on any day of the week but experiencing this festival was fun and different.  I always love to eat good lasagna in Little Italy.  No trip to New York is complete without a meal at one of the fabulous restaurants along Mott Street.

Central Park - 2012

How can I describe Central Park in just one short paragraph?  Too hard, can't do it.  It is just something wonderful you have to experience for yourself.  I personally went into the park on everyday of this trip.  Sometimes, just wandering and walking.  Then, on Sunday. I met up with lots of ladies from our group for a great bike ride.  So many good memories, so much fun.  One of my favorite moments is when I was at the back of the group during our bike ride.  We were sailing down the west side of the park.  I could see all the ladies from our trip in front of me laughing, enjoying the amazing weather and taking in all that is the park.  That is a moment of joy that I know I will never forget.

Not sure, but I think they might be having a good time!

Nothing like a bike ride in the park.

Newsies on Brodway - 2012

I have seen over a dozen Broadway shows, and Newsies is my new favortie!  The energy was high, the  performers were so athletic!  Great show.  This one I will see again.
-Michelle

Jenna and Zoe giving some love to Corey Cott - the lead in Newsies.
A bunch of ladies, feeling like teenagers, sceaming over Corey Cott!
Lola and Claire didn't miss the chance to get close to this cute guy either!

Much of the group stuck around long enought for us all to get a picture together.  What a fun night on Broadway!

Chelsea Market and the Food Tour - 2012

 Food Tour—Chelsea Market
Who had heard of such a thing?  Well, I had never heard of a food tour before!  Thank goodness for friends who will share their experience and ideas.  Such fun! I learned so much about Chelsea, an area I knew little about.  The sights (oh my -they were so beautiful), the tastes (oh yeah - YUM) and the entertainment (Darrell was a hoot!!) was  worth every penny.  A great way to spend the day with friends.  The pictures tell it all, don’t we all look like we are having the best time?  After the food tour, we headed to Fishes Eddy, a funky and super fun kitchen store.  I am a dish junkie and I was in heaven!  Love this neighborhood.

Lesa and Jenna with Tuck Shop Meat Pies.
Dianne, Julie, Melanie, Michelle and Claudia in the Market.
The whole gang at Morimoto's restaurant.
I had to get a picture by this sign!  I love Food Network!  I wish I could have gone upstairs (Food Network offices are above Chelsea Market) and poked around the kitchens amd studios.  The food tour exceeded all of our expectations!  It was a super fun, not to mention a delicious, way to spend our morning.  The pasta place we went to at the end had this amazing meat sauce.  The cupcakes and chocolate milk were dreamy.  I know I will be coming back to the market, and this neighboorhood time and time again!

Darrell, our guide, took Carla for a little dance on the sidewalk at the end of our tour!
This is Fishs Eddy - our favorite New York kitchen store.

China Town and Mott Street - 2012

Mott Street is an experience.  There is no other way to explain it.  Not so much in shopping, but lots of stuff to smell, I mean see.  I love coming here.  It's one of those places that reminds me that it is a big world and I have lots to learn!  After a stroll down Mott Street, we always hit Canal Street for some real China Town shopping.
-Michelle
Jenna doesn't look to impressed with the fish!

 Fresh eel, anyone? Only $11.99!
It's amazing what you can buy out of a bucket on the side of the street.  Jenna doesn't seem too impressed by frogs either! Wish this picture had captured Zoe's face - it was just as hilarious!

As a visitor to this eccentric neighborhood you probably don’t need anything there.  But you will probably find a lot of things to buy anyway.  I love the scarves, they are so colorful and beautiful.  I could buy 10 every time I go.   There are sights and smells I have not experienced anywhere else.  I love the noise and the languages I don’t understand.  I have found books, jewelry, sunglasses, watches, purses and toys for the kids.  I even hauled a Menorah home once and I still love it.  Lots of fun, but my advice is to pay attention, be aware of what is going on around you, have cash and then have fun.
-Julie

One of these trips I am going to figure out just what this thing is and what it is used for.
